Sophie McEwan: Owner of two successful businesses in Perth, Mum to amazing human and fur babies and wife to wonderful husband Neil. We couldn’t help but wonder if Sophie was an all round super woman so, we took a few minutes to get to know her!
Alongside the aforementioned husband Neil, Sophie owns Perth’s favourite Range Cooker and Woodburning Stove showrooms: HeatWorks. Not only has Sophie been running this successful business with hubby for the last 10 years, she also is the proud owner of Quince.
Quince is an online homeware store that is dedicated to indie makers and unique design – sounds right up our street, Soph!
We don’t know how she juggles it all and makes it look so easy! We were super excited when Sophie agreed to open up to us a little…..
What three words would your best friend use to describe you?
Hopefully….Kind, Caring and Fun!
What’s on your iPod/playing in your car these days?
I have a massive playlist that I have on shuffle, a real mix of songs that I’ve discovered on BBC Radio 6 Music. My favourites from my playlist at the moment, would have to be any songs by This is the Kit, Public Service Broadcasting and Young Fathers.
Who’s your favourite James Bond actor?
Oh Daniel Craig for sure!
Your house is on fire, what one item do you save?
Apart from the obvious, kids, husband and dogs. It would have to be our piece of art by Anna King.
Last meal on earth?
This is maybe a bit daft, but whenever my Mum asked me what I wanted for my birthday tea I would always ask for Markies Spaghetti Bolognese. I’d probably ask for this as it reminds me of happy memories…that or a trip to the Fat Duck!
Dream dinner party guests?
Oh my goodess, this is tricky, here we go…
My husband Neil (He’d never forgive me if I didn’t invite him along with this lot!)
First thing you’d do if you won £1million?
Call my Mum and have a large gin and tonic!
Quiet night in or big night out?
Depends on my tiredness level, I’ve got a toddler body clock at the moment, early bed and early rises. I think it would have to be a night in with cheese and wine.
City break or weekend in the country?
Weekend in the country, any excuse to have a mini digital detox and hit the hills with our two wild whippets.
Early bird or night owl?
I’ve turned into an early bird thanks to my kids, but to be honest I love it. I’m so much more productive with an early start.
Save it or spend it?
Both…I use the Plum app to help save small manageable amounts, but I still love a trip to the garden centre.
Couch potato or fitness fanatic?
I would say that I’m somewhere in between. Exercise for me consists of daily dog walks and the odd bit of pilates. This keeps my body and mind happy.
Home or abroad?
This year we’re spending our Summer on the West Coast instead of abroad, the beaches are beautiful and the travel a whole lot less stressful. I will still be venturing abroad for skiing though!
Early or late?
Early, I’m always early.
Cats or dogs?
Dogs all the way! I’m a self confessed Whippet woman and our two hounds come to work with us everyday. I would be lost without them.
Our family holiday to Arisaig. Playing on the beach, in the sun with my family.
And most embarrassing?
I’m not embarrassed easily, so this is tricky, I tend to laugh at myself a lot!
I don’t know if it’s a regret as I probably wouldn’t have ended up where I am now without the choices that I had made. But I do wish I stayed on at school and achieved my Highers.
What are you proudest of?
My babies, I have two wonderful, bright and caring children that I am so proud are mine.
Who do you admire most?
My parents, they worked their socks off to bring me up and have offered endless support throughout the years.
And who do you detest?
I don’t really detest anyone in particular. But I do detest people who prey upon the vulnerable.
Who would you like to thank?
My parents, my husband, my in-laws and all of our wonderful clients who keep our business going.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Life is too short, and it flies by. Don’t waste it on negative people and do what makes you happy.
What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever had to do?
A charity cycle of the Hebrides with no practice on a bike that wasn’t my own. Even padded shorts didn’t help. Ouch.
Hardest thing you’ve had to give up?
Gluten! I miss a decent crusty white loaf!
Could you save someone’s life if they were dying in the street?
I hope so.
What keeps you awake at night?
My to-do list. I need to get in the habit of writing it all down before I go to sleep so I can clear my head.
And your biggest critic?
Myself for sure.
Mobile phone ringtone?
Star Wars theme.
