Jan Deegan // Minutes Secretary

Jan Deegan founded Next Step Events in 2019 following 14-years of service in the wedding and hospitality industry. Her business offers consultancy and on the ground support to new and existing wedding related business ventures.

Currently, Jan supports 3 privately owned wedding venues across central Scotland. Providing services ranging from administrative support to on the day wedding co-ordination for their couples. Jan has teamed up with a local wedding planner and offers wedding workshops for couples embarking on the roller-coaster of wedding planning themselves.

If you have a one-off event or launch you would like planned, decorated or run please do not hesitate in contacting Jan. She can also operate as a mystery shopper, exhibition representative or provide personal wedding advice.

In her down time, Jan loves watching food programmes with the hubby, binge watching a series on Netflix in her PJs in front of her log burner or challenging her 2 boys to a board game……quite often with a cheeky glass of fizz in hand.

Jan joined the Perthshire Businesswomen’s Network Committee in March 2020 and took on the role of Minutes Secretary.

Rebecca Ellwood // Treasurer

Rebecca Ellwood is a solicitor at Thorntons Law LLP in the Land and Rural Business team. She is also the Treasurer for Perthshire Businesswomen’s Network. On a daily basis, Rebecca advises clients on all aspects of the sale and purchase of rural land. This includes rural residential property, wayleaves and servitudes, leasing, voluntary registration, development plot sites, security work and all other related title matters.

Thorntons is one of the largest Scottish full service legal firms. They provide a full range of services for individuals and families, businesses, public sector organisations and charities. Rebecca is based in Thorntons’ Perth office but they have a network of offices with clients across Scotland. Their legal and estate agency teams are on hand for you with practical and straightforward advice in person, online or by phone as suits you.

Rebecca joined the Perthshire Businesswomen’s Network Committee in 2019 and took on the role as Treasurer in March 2020. Her duties within the committee include overseeing all financial transactions and preparation of accounts.

Donna Bednarek // Event Planner

Donna Bednarek is the Fundraising Engagement Manager at CLIC Sargent and the event planner at PBN.

When cancer strikes young lives CLIC Sargent helps families limit the damage cancer causes beyond their health.

Cancer doesn’t discriminate. Today, 12 more children and young people in the UK will hear the devastating news that they have cancer. From diagnosis, CLIC Sargent’s specialist care teams will step in, ready to help, support and guide. They will provide a specialist package of support tailored to each young cancer patient and family.

CLIC Sargent fights tirelessly for children and young people with cancer, often when they feel they can’t. They do this individually, locally and nationally, so that they can focus on the important things, like getting well. And if the worst happens, they will work with bereaved families to get them support, to help them cope with their emotional pain.

Their vision is that everyone under 25 with cancer, and their families, will get the support and help they need during their cancer treatment and beyond, including bereaved families living with emotional pain. CLIC Sargent want them to thrive, not just survive, and for everyone to join in that mission.

Donna started working with CLIC Sargent in 2017 because she wanted to be a part of that vision. “I wanted to help stop cancer destroying young lives, and I can’t do that on my own. I work with amazing individuals, groups & businesses across the North of Scotland to raise funds & awareness for this incredible charity.”

Debbie Hutchison // President

Debbie Hutchison is an accomplished marketing professional with over 25 years’ experience in both corporate and SME sectors, across several industries. With her vast experience, Debbie helps her clients avoid expensive mistakes to drive their business to success.

Debbie is currently loving her role as Marketing Director at The Malting House Design Studio, where she is also part of Business Gateway Tayside’s Expert Help programme. She continues her long-term involvement with Merlin ERD Ltd, and is also a Director of a number of other companies.

Experience

Past employers include large international corporations such as Renault, Nissan and Orica as well as SMEs and dot.com start-ups so she has a wide variety of experience to share.

Debbie’s values-based collaborative approach, coupled with creative flair and an eye for detail, has brought success to several projects over the years. She is also a certified SOSTAC Planner, meaning she can develop an excellent strategic plan for almost anything!

A firm believer in life-long learning and the value education can play in changing lives. Debbie has been a mature student for the last few years and has been a Board Member at Perth College UHI since 2017 where she is involved in the Finance Committee and chair of the Engagement Committee.

Married with 3 children, she enjoys her pets, playing the flute and is a lapsed Tae Kwon Do martial artist!

In March 2020, Debbie took over as the President of Perthshire Busineswomen’s Network.
