The world’s oldest stand-up comedienne Lynn Ruth Miller is looking forward to making her Perthshire debut at the very first Crieff Comedy Festival later this month.

The 84-year-old Ohio-born funnywoman will be giving local audiences a taste of her new show at The Square Bar in Crieff on Saturday, July 27, ahead of her appearance at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Dubbed the new Joan Rivers of Fringe Comedy, Miller’s act exploits her advanced age with hilarious gags about dating octogenarians and why she got her nipple pierced!

She said: “I’ve never performed in Perthshire before, but I’m excited, honoured and delighted to bring my show to the first Crieff Comedy Festival.

“Crieff audiences can expect to learn what life is like when you are 84 and living the life. I will make you laugh and cry and look forward to your own dotage. At least I hope I will. Young people of the world, come and see your future!”

Standing at just 4ft 10 the retired journalist – she previously worked on newspapers and magazines after graduating from Stanford University – only started performing when she was 71-years-old after catching the comedy bug after enrolling at a comedy college in San Francisco.

Lynn Ruth Miller has been performing in the UK to great acclaim for the past four years, even compering the finals of the Old Comedian of the Year competition at London’s Leicester Square Theatre.

She is a regular at The Stand in Scotland, the San Francisco Punchline and The International in Dublin and is now chomping at the bit ready to do her storytelling, cabaret and stand-up in Crieff to prove that aging can be amazing.

Lynn Ruth says the best part of being a stand-up comedienne is “being able to connect with such a diverse group of people and making them understand where I am coming from and laugh about it.”

And the worst?

“Trying to remember what to say next,” she laughs.

Ticket’s for Lynn Ruth Miller’s Fringe Preview Show on Saturday, July 28, 7.30-8.30pm at The Square Bar, are available via the website
