3 November – Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) training course

Are you a manager who hasn’t received much management training? Would you like to learn more about delegation, management styles, giving feedback and other essential management skills?

Management Today is a training course for managers, whether experienced or new, who have not received much management training. You may have lots of experience in your specialist area of work, but as a manager, you have a whole new skill-set to acquire!

Rowan Consultancy has combined forces with Perthshire Chamber of Commerce to bring you a 1.5-day programme focussing on the people skills needed by managers.

This course has been approved by ILM as meeting their standards for management training.

What will you learn on the course?

The course will cover:

  • different management styles
  • adapting your management style to the needs of your team
  • management roles and responsibilities
  • the transition from colleague to manager, and the change in your team
  • the player-manager tension in yourself and what, when and how to delegate
  • giving effective feedback on performance
  • use of the One-Minute Manager to set one-minute goals, and give one-minute praise and one-minute reprimands
  • the importance of planning, monitoring and reviewing
  • what motivates your team.

The course is practical and experiential, not full of PowerPoint slides and piles of notes. There’s plenty of opportunity to relate management theory to your current situation and we encourage you to share real-life management challenges with one another and to discover possible solutions.

Feedback from previous participants

“Would definitely recommend them – very professional and clearly extremely experienced in what they do.” – Course participant, Perth

“I found the course very effective. The simplest and most useful tool I took from the course was from the ‘One Minute Manager’. The one-minute praising really works! I am now helping people reach the potential by catching them doing things right – and sharing this with them immediately and saying well done for a good job done.” Paul Duke, Commercial Manager, Clark Thomson Insurance Brokers

“I enjoyed the course. It was good to see people from different areas of business were experiencing similar problems in management. I am starting to put the ideas into practice, which is taking some of the workload from me and saving me time. Thanks again.” Mark Duncan, Hatrick Bruce
