Blair Castle to Host Blooming Great Tea Party for Marie Curie

Blair Castle is showing its support for Marie Curie and Scotland’s Garden Scheme by hosting a Blooming Great Tea Party in the Castle’s stunning Hercules Garden to fundraise for the two charities. Taking place from 11am to 4pm on Saturday 13th June, the party will offer tea, coffee and cakes in return for a donation to the charity.

On Saturday, 100% of admission prices to the castle and grounds, which opens to the public at 9.30am, will be donated to Marie Curie and Scotland’s Gardens Scheme, as Marie Curie looks to build on the £667,000 Blooming Great Tea Party events raised throughout 2014.

As the UK’s leading charity for people living with a terminal illness, fundraising events are vital to help continue to work of the charity in supporting people living with terminal illness and their families.

Helen Zollinger, Community Fundraiser for Marie Curie in Perthshire, Tayside and Angus, said:

“We are delighted to be working closing with Blair Castle to host our Blooming Great Tea Party in the Castle’s Hercules Gardens. Everyone who visits Blair Castle on Saturday 13th June will be supporting the work that we do to help those living with terminal illness. We are hoping to improve on the brilliant amount raised by Blooming Great Tea Parties across the UK last year and we look forward to welcoming lots of people to our tea party to raise money for two fantastic causes– it will be a great day out in a beautiful location.”

Last year saw Blooming Great Tea Party form part of 2,329 events held across the UK, and raise enough money to fund 33,350 hours of vital nursing care, as Marie Curie helps support those living with a terminal illness and their families.  Since 2008, Blooming Great Tea Parties have raised £4 million for Marie Curie in total.

Helen added:

“Through events like this, Marie Curie is able to provide care and support for more than 7,400 living with a terminal illness in Scotland each year through our nursing service and two hospices in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Last year the Marie Curie Nursing Service made 2,423 visits to families in NHS Tayside. We couldn’t achieve this without fundraising and events like our Blooming Great Tea Parties.”

Stuart Letford, Marketing and Communications Officer at Blair Castle added:

“We are very proud to be working closely with Marie Curie to raise money for their charity and for Scotland’s Garden Scheme. The Hercules Garden, which has been restored to reflect the 18th century layout created by the 2nd Duke of Atholl with a large pond, islands, a Chinese bridge, fruit trees, herbaceous borders and a sculpture trail, will be the perfect setting for a Blooming Great Tea Party and we hope lots of members of the public are able to come along and enjoy the day while raising money for fantastic causes.

“Every admission this Saturday will go to these charities, so we are hoping to see lots of people visit to support their amazing work and enjoy everything our Castle and Grounds have to offer.”
